Happy Home Orphanage, outside of Kathmandu, is home to just over 100 children. Currently, water is hauled by buckets from down the hill. The government-run well tap, where they collect water, runs for only one hour a day. Thus water access is incredibly limited. While this is a working solution to their water needs, we see that it is not a sustainable long-term solution.
Originally our goal was to raise the funds to build an onsite well for the orphanage, plumbing for showers and toilets, as well as solar power to warm the holding tanks to allow for warm showers. However, the local government has made this project incredibly difficult to move forward with. Our goal is to now purchase a large holding tank to keep on the property and have water delivered monthly to the home. Thus finding a solution to better their water needs.
