Kandu Sherpa - Age 18
Make a gift. Save a life.
I am 18 years old and I am in grade 9. I know I am older but I was not part of the Tsering's Fund family until I was older. Once the Tserings Fund found me then I could go to school. My mother and father work in the fields. Both my brother (age 14) and sister (age 21) have disabilities (they are mute and physically deformed) and I must be the one who supports my family when I graduate school. I would be working with my parents on a farm if Tsering's Fund did not give me a sponsorship to school. I know I need a direct sponsor so I can continue all the way through 12th grade. I worry about this all the time. I love going to school and I know my parents would not send me to school because they have no money. I want to be a dentist someday so I can help my family. Please sponsor me.
Note from Tsering's Fund Volunteer: Kandu feels enormous pressure to work and be the primary wage earner. She wants to be a dentist or a teacher. She wishes her siblings could be more independent, but it will never happen with their disabilities. She broke down absolutely sobbing and Jingme, a Tsering's Fund student, had to interpret and help soothe Kandu as I held her and consoled her in English.
